After more than three decades shaping brands, influencing public behavior campaigns, and helping Caribbean businesses expand into new markets, Saint Lucian marketing strategist and Accela Marketing Founder Agnes Francis has earned the highest professional distinction awarded by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Francis was recently elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM), a globally respected designation reserved for professionals who have demonstrated sustained leadership, strategic excellence, and measurable impact within the marketing industry.

The recognition places Francis among an elite group of international practitioners recognized for influencing markets, driving economic growth, and championing ethical standards in communications and branding.

“I am deeply honored to share that I have been elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing,” Francis said, explaining that the distinction reflects years of leading teams and campaigns that delivered significant growth, successfully penetrated new markets, and produced award-winning results grounded in strategy and impact.

Her journey began as a management trainee at an international hotel chain immediately after university, an experience she says shaped her belief that marketing is ultimately about service and human connection.

That philosophy later guided her work as Saint Lucia’s Director of Tourism during the 1990s, where she gained firsthand experience positioning destinations as brands built on trust, identity, and visitor experience.

Over the years, Francis has become one of the Caribbean’s most recognized marketing and communications professionals, leading campaigns across tourism, telecommunications, finance, public education, and national development.

Through Accela Marketing, she intentionally focused on effectiveness over aesthetics, prioritizing measurable outcomes instead of pursuing creativity alone.

Her work has included helping regional telecommunications and financial companies enter new markets through research-driven strategies, culturally relevant branding, and targeted promotions. She has also led destination branding campaigns aimed at strengthening global competitiveness while building pride among local populations.

Francis has additionally designed national and regional public education initiatives intended to influence public behavior and improve community engagement on key development issues.

“Marketing without research is noise, and communications without cultural fluency is irrelevant,” Francis stated, emphasizing that successful campaigns must begin with stakeholder engagement and authentic understanding of the communities they serve.

She noted that her communications strategies often incorporate Kwéyòl alongside English to ensure messages resonate culturally and reach audiences more effectively.

Francis also used the moment to challenge longstanding perceptions of marketing in the Caribbean and wider Global South, arguing that communications and public engagement are too often treated as secondary considerations in major national projects.

“Whether you are rolling out geothermal energy, protecting biodiversity, or digitizing public services, your success ultimately depends on public trust and adoption,” she said. “That is the level at which I intend to continue operating.”

As part of her continued work following the FCIM recognition, Francis says she intends to mentor emerging Caribbean marketers, advocate for evidence-based communications strategies in development sectors, and demonstrate that globally competitive marketing expertise can be built and sustained within the region.

“To my team at Accela Marketing, my clients across the OECS and beyond, and the communities which have trusted me to tell their stories: thank you,” Francis said. “This FCIM is ours.”
