The AFRO wishes to announce the passing of the Rev. Dr. Marie Phillips Braxton, AFRO shareholder and former AFRO Board member, who died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness.

Braxton was the sister of AFRO President Benjamin Phillips and Board Secretary

Rachael Murphy Humphrey, and cousin to many other AFRO Board members and shareholders.

The retired high school educator and former assistant pastor of Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., was married to retired A.M.E. bishop, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Eugene Braxton, for almost a half-century. They shared two children, Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Eugene.

Arrangements are pending.
