Anguilla and St Martin are stepping up cooperation as increasing traveller numbers between the territories put pressure on their ports and ferry services.
Representatives from the two sides met at the Port de Galisbay in Marigot on 10 September to talk about the additional passenger traffic and practical ways to manage the demand.
The discussions focused on easing peak-period congestion caused by day trippers through additional ferry services and larger vessels, as well as ongoing ferry terminal enhancements.

Anguilla’s delegation included members of the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority Board and the Anguilla Tourist Board, along with ministers Kyle Hodge, Cardigan Connor and Jose Vanterpool.
Representing St Martin was Arnel Daniel, territorial advisor and president of the port administration, who was accompanied by port and tourism stakeholders.
They spoke about passenger movement between Port of Galisbay and Blowing Point Port which totalled 197,000 in 2023, 251,000 in 2024 and 270,000 in 2025.
In the first seven months of this year, that number had already reached 240,000 – nearly 89% of the total recorded last year, according to a government press release.
Among the measures suggested to address congestion during peak periods were introducing additional scheduled ferry services and using vessels of an appropriate size to meet demand.
The St Martin delegation also confirmed that enhancement works at the Marigot ferry terminal are expected to begin in October.
Infrastructure minister Vanterpool said: “We had a day of successful meetings as we spoke to different issues that affect both the Anguilla and St Martin ports and how we operate together.”
He said it focused on the “welcome issue” of the increased day trippers travelling between the ports.
Further discussion addressed ferry and cargo operations, communication between the respective agencies and practical measures to improve traffic flow and the overall passenger experience.
Consideration was also given to appropriate dress standards for vessel crews and members of the travelling public, the press release said.
Daniel described the exchange as “very fruitful” and said: “After putting these things in place, I hope and I do believe it will enhance both territories.”
The technical meeting followed several weeks of stakeholder consultation and launched a series of engagements, expected to take place quarterly.
