By Zoila Palma: Belize is being represented by Cornelio Acosta at the IDB’s Regional Policy Dialogue in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Acosta said that he is proud to represent the Belize Water Services and will participate as a panelist for “Governing Drought: Leadership and Institutional Coordination.”
“Joining regional leaders—including El Salvador’s Vice President Félix Ulloa, Uruguay’s Environment Undersecretary Oscar Caputi, Panama’s Vice Minister Manuel Zambrano Chang and Vice Minister Tito Queiroz—we discussed the leadership, planning and institutional coordination needed to protect drinking-water supplies during drought,” Acosta explained.
Acosta says that BWS brings practical experience in reducing water losses and strengthening supply resilience.
“Our participation gives Belize a voice in shaping regional approaches to drought preparedness.
My message was clear: Plan and prepare before the crisis, protect every drop and establish who must act. Early investment, alternative sources and strong institutional coordination are essential,” he added.
