The Assistant Bishop of Kampala Anglican Diocese Bishop Hannington Mutebi graced the official opening ceremony at the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games 1 hosted by Seroma Christian High School in Mukono.

He stressed the enormous benefits of sports ranging from teamwork, discipline to resilience towards personal growth.
“So as we participate in sports, we learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline and resilience offering personal growth. I want to inform you that what you are doing builds you for a better future” Bishop Mutebi remarked.

A total of 6,558 athletes are competing in 11 disciplines, boldly signifying the tournament’s growing stature as a premier platform for nurturing school sports talent in Uganda.
The Commissioner for Physical Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncan Mugumya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to school sports.
He emphasized that the Ball Games are formally embedded within the Ministry’s calendar, urging officials to uphold integrity and professionalism throughout the competition.

The event also drew key stakeholders, including representatives from the National Council of Sports (NCS), ASSHU leadership, and head teachers from participating schools, reflecting a unified commitment to advancing school sports.
Seroma Christian High School Resident Director Amelia Kyambadde vividly extended appreciation to partner institutions that provided critical facilities, including Uganda Christian University (UCU), Namilyango College, Our Lady of Africa, Seeta University, Seeta High School, and Hilton High School.

Kyambadde welcomed the full delegations of schools from across the country.
The official girls’ football match played before a capacity crowd witnessed hosts Seroma Christian High School play to a 2-all draw with St Charles Lwanga Kasasa.

Saturday, 2nd May 2026 is game day three of the competition that has participants competing in girls’ football, Basketball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Badminton, Tennis, Rugby (15’s), Volleyball (U-17) and Netball (U-17).



The outstanding schools will qualify to represent Uganda at the 2026 FEASSA Games due in Morogoro city, Tanzania this August.
Running concurrently with the games is the capacity building program meant to nurture young journalists, referees and administrators.
