By Zoila Palma: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has warned customers across the country to prepare for possible power interruptions tonight, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as the company works to maintain stability of the national power grid amid high demand and limited electricity supply.
Power interruptions may occur between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in several areas, including parts of the George Price Highway, Ladyville, San Ignacio, Dangriga, Independence and Belize City.
A second round of possible interruptions is scheduled between 9:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., affecting areas in Corozal, San Ignacio, Dangriga and Punta Gorda.
BEL said the tentative load-shedding schedule is based on projected energy demand and generation, but conditions can change quickly.
The company noted that the situation is being driven by high power demand and limited supply from local sources and Mexico’s CFE.
