By Aaron Humes: A fire on the private island owned by former NBA player Reggie Bullock lay waste to a building containing a restaurant on Saturday evening.
Police report that they responded to the island, about five miles southeast of Placencia, at about 10:40 p.m. The general manager reported that he had been asleep in his cabin located at the front portion of the island. He stated that he awoke after noticing a bright glare coming from outside his window. Upon investigating, he observed that the restaurant building was on fire. Five other persons, all maintenance workers, were also present.
The structure, a thatch-roof wooden building, was at that time completely engulfed in flames. Efforts were made to extinguish the fire and save the structure; however, these efforts were unsuccessful, and the building was destroyed.
The general manager told police he believed the fire started from an electrical problem. No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.
