*”Strung,” a new psychological thriller is headed to Peacock this summer from director Malcolm D. Lee and starring Chloe Bailey.
The story centers on a talented violinist who accepts a prestigious position tutoring the gifted daughter of a wealthy and enigmatic family. What begins as a career opportunity quickly unravels into something far more sinister, as buried secrets begin to surface and the protagonist finds herself questioning her safety, her ambitions, and her own mind.
The ensemble cast includes Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, Anna Diop, and Coco Jones. The film debuts Friday, June 26. Check out the trailer below.
The screenplay was written by Alan McElroy, and the film carries the backing of two major production houses – Blumhouse and Peachtree & Vine – in association with Blackmaled Productions. Producers include Tyler Perry, Jason Blum, Tim Palen, Malcolm D. Lee, and Dominique Telson.
For Lee, “Strung” represents new creative territory. The director is stepping into the psychological thriller genre for the first time, and he made clear that McElroy’s script is what pulled him in.
“I love a good suspense thriller and a solid narrative that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats,” Lee said. “I hadn’t had the privilege of directing a film in this genre, but when I read Alan McElroy’s script, I knew I had to dip my toe in this water.”
Lee described his experience reading the script as visceral and immediate, saying the twists and turns provoked audible reactions that convinced him to put his own mark on the genre.
“Strung draws you in with a combination of lush visuals, captivating performances and a riveting soundtrack that captivates viewers — that is, if your heart and nerves can withstand the suspense,” he said. “Prepare to be Strung.”
