Sky Hawkins poetry prize 2025 is open for entries from 23 June until 6 July. Results will be announced in August The post Bylines Network Sky Hawkins poetry prize 2025 appeared first on Bylines Network.

The Bylines Network Poetry Prize is a competition for people of all levels of experience, and from all parts of the UK. We are passionate about citizens, their stories and their voices – this is our prize for poetry that reflects our ethos and touches the hearts of our readers.
At a time when billionaires own much of our media, local press is in decline, and social media is rife with misinformation and abuse, there has never been a greater need for citizens to share the stories that truly matter to them. Our network of 10 publications is passionate about platforming voices that might otherwise go unheard. Our nationwide poetry prize is another way of living that mission.
This competition is open to anyone over 18 living in the UK. You can write on any theme, and in any style or form. All we ask is that your poem is shorter than a side of A4. We will select 10 poems for our shortlist, publish them in Bylines Network titles, and hand them to our esteemed judges Kate Fox and Ian McMillan, who will choose the final winner.
We have named our prize after Sky Hawkins, a poet, performer and facilitator from North East England, who died in April 2025. Her sudden loss was felt as strongly by fellow poets, friends and family as it was by the women’s groups, youth services, and projects she worked with. Drawing on personal experience, Sky’s engaging and entertaining work won multiple slams, awards, and commissions. She was passionate about enabling citizens to share their voice, and devoted two decades to working in marginalised communities, helping others speak their truth.
In her words: The Moon shivered under her cloud, whilst the stars cast words of hope.
We hope you will be inspired to cast your own words and send your poems to our competition. We can’t wait to read them. Before you enter, please read the competition rules which include more information about the competition and what we’re looking for. Then use the form below to submit your entry between 23rd June and 6th July 2025. Good luck!
