Government says the move is intended to ensure Belize has sufficient electricity to meet growing demand and maintain a reliable supply. The procurement of additional generation capacity is being described as a proactive step toward safeguarding the country’s energy security.

Cabinet has also supported an expansion of the Social Rate, increasing eligibility from 60 kWh to 80 kWh per month.

The change is expected to extend the preferential electricity tariff to approximately 17,000 residential customers.

Together, the measures combine immediate assistance for households with longer-term investment in Belize’s electricity supply. Government says the approach is intended to provide relief to consumers today while strengthening the country’s energy security for the years ahead.
