Sweden-based blossoming football star Faith Chinzimu has made history as the first Malawian to win a European cup.

The teenage Scorchers’ attacker’s club BK Hacken on Saturday night went into the history books as the winners of the inaugural Uefa Women’s Europa Cup after beating fellow Swedish giants Hammarby 3-2 in Gothenburg to complete a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Chinzimu did not get a run as she sat out on the bench for the entire duration, but proudly walked away with a medal, having been a key part of the successful campaign.

The Malawian star could not be reached for comment yesterday, but her club coach Elena Sadiku was quoted by the BBB as having said: “What a feeling! I am super proud. This is historic. Credit to all the girls and the entire team for giving out their all.”

Striker Felicia Schroeder was the hero of the night for BK Hacken for claiming a hat-trick that sealed the victory.

Ironically, Chinzimu, a product of Lilongwe -based Ascent Soccer Academy, scored her first goal in the same tournament in her debut in the preliminary stages.
