*Chris Brown is gearing up for one of the biggest chapters of his career, with a new album and a massive stadium tour on the horizon.

Brown’s twelfth studio album, “Brown,” arrives May 8, and the cover art is already driving conversation. The image — which shows him in a tan suit, posed on a carpet with his elbow to the floor — has drawn comparisons to some of R&B and pop’s most iconic visuals, including Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” Lionel Richie’s single “You Are,” Luther Vandross’ “Give Me the Reason,” and Teddy Pendergrass’ “It’s Time for Love,” Complex reports.

The reaction has been divided. Some observers feel Brown is overstepping by positioning himself alongside icons of that magnitude, particularly Jackson. One X user wrote, “He wants to be Michael Jackson so bad,” while another person added, “He’s the most boring person to ever enter art. Nothing is subversive. Nothing hits the mark. It’s just a bunch of the Shade Room demographic that accept the lowest vibrational art ever.” Check out additional reactions below.

Brown won’t have much downtime after the album drops. He and Usher are set to launch a joint 33-date stadium run called “The R&B Tour: Raymond & Brown,” produced by Live Nation. The tour opens June 26 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, makes its way through major stops including Nashville, Washington, D.C., and Detroit, and closes out December 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

The scale of the production is significant. The itinerary includes two-night stands at some of the country’s largest venues — MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Tickets are currently on sale.
