THE Illegal Firearms Enforcement Team (IFET) of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s (CFSEU-BC) has arrested a man for firearms manufacturing and distribution of computer data in addition to various firearms-related offences.
In March, CFSEU-BC IFET began an investigation into a suspect believed to be manufacturing 3D printed firearms and uploading schematics online. This activity falls within a new law enacted in 2023 in the Criminal Code of Canada, Section 102.1, Distribution of Computer Data, which is unique to Canada and designed to address illegal firearms manufacturing.
On April 2, one suspect was identified by investigators and subsequently arrested and transported to cells. With the assistance of The Integrated Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (LMD-ERT) a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence in Surrey and the following items were seized:
* Clandestine firearms manufacturing lab
* A loaded 3D printed semi-automatic rifle
* Six 3D printed handguns
* Four firearm suppressors
* A 3D printed handgun receiver
* Several 3D printed magazines
* Three 3D printers
* 3D printer filament
* Various tools and parts related to firearms
* Electronic storage devices, laptops and cellphones
* A homemade test firing station

“This investigation highlights the critical work being done by CFSEU-BC to identify and disrupt emerging threats to public safety. The presence of 3D printed firearms is particularly concerning, these weapons are unregulated, untraceable, and increasingly accessible, creating new risks for our communities.”, said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC Media Relations Officer.
The investigation remains ongoing and charges will be recommended at a later date.
