Corinth Secondary cricket back from rewarding Trinidad tour

The Corinth Secondary School cricket team is celebrating a fruitful tour of Trinidad & Tobago, where they worked alongside two local cricket clubs. Corinth won both of their 50-over matches but lost the two T20 games.

In the first match, Corinth dismissed AK Cricket Academy for 168 runs in 37 overs. Jean Claude Emmanuel took 4 wickets for 23 runs, Neil Poyotte got 2 for 37, and Daniel Lorde picked up 2 for 27. Corinth reached the target with 18 overs to spare, with Lorde scoring 53 and Emmanuel adding 44.

Corinth won the second game to take the series. AK Academy were bowled out for 260 in 45 overs. Poyotte took 4 wickets for 24 runs, Lorde got 3 for 57, and Ethan St Marthe took 3 for 29. Corinth chased down the total in 41 overs, finishing at 262 for 8. Emmanuel scored an impressive 106, while Lorde added 32, Kaleb Charles 30, and Zidane Wilson 20.

A scheduled 50-over match against the Aranguez Under-19 Cricket Team was called off because of bad weather.

On the T20 leg of the tour, Corinth faced the Keston Lewis Cricket Academy. KLCA won both matches despite strong bowling by the likes of St Marthe, who claimed 3-34, Kaleb Charles with 3-21, and Poyotte, who finished with 2-19.

Even though they lost the last game, the team, led by head coach Kwame Joseph, looked back on the tour as a success, ending with two wins and two losses. The trip gave the players valuable experience against strong opponents and highlighted the squad’s talent and potential as they continue developing their cricket skills.

“It was a very exciting and informative trip for the players. They were exposed to different conditions, different pitches, and I think they really enjoyed it,” Joseph told St Lucia Times.

“I think with this exposure, the players understand the game better. They got tips from other regional players from Trinidad, and it kind of showed them what they need to do when playing the 50-over format; their temperament and how they should go about constructing an innings of a game.”

Joseph said the boys received great support from parents, the school community and local businesses. He hopes this trip is just the start of many more opportunities for the school’s young cricketers.

“I would say I have a pretty good parent committee,” Joseph said. “They stood by my side through all the fundraisers, and they were able to amass all the funds needed for this trip. Also, I’d like to thank the community, all the businesses in the Corinth community who chipped in whatever way they could to make sure that this dream of ours came true.

“Next year we’re looking at going to Guyana. So, hopefully, we can also make this trip another success.”
