The Department of Youth, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), highlighted the progress of the Girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Course, delivered by Pixel Pro Media as part of a practical training programme designed to equip young women with skills for the digital economy.
The course is implemented through UNDP’s “Strengthening Youth Governance and Institutional Resilience for Peacebuilding in Belize” project and supports national efforts to expand inclusive access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) opportunities. The programme targets 30 female participants aged 14 to 21 and provides hands-on learning in digital literacy, graphic design, artificial intelligence (AI), website publishing, digital research, digital safety, and presentation readiness.
Through guided instruction, practical exercises, mentorship, and access to technical resources, participants are developing market-relevant outputs, including graphic design assets and digital portfolio websites. The course places strong emphasis on responsible technology use, safe online publishing, creativity, innovation, and the confidence needed to pursue further education, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities in Belize’s growing digital economy.
Speaking about the programme’s impact, Mr. Gabriel Casey, Lead Instructor and Owner of Pixel Pro Media, highlighted the course’s transformative value. “This is exactly why programmes like this are so important. These young women are not only learning technical skills, but they are also gaining the confidence and independence to build, promote, and grow their own businesses in today’s digital world.”
Throughout the course, participants have demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, and determination as they apply new digital tools to real-world ideas and personal projects. Their progress underscores the importance of investing in young women and ensuring equitable access to training, mentorship, and technology that can support their success in the digital age.
The Girls in ICT Course reaffirms the Department of Youth’s commitment, alongside UNDP, to creating inclusive opportunities that empower young people, strengthen digital capacity, and contribute to sustainable development, resilience, and peacebuilding in Belize.
