Tuareg Association Holds Protest in France Over Alleged Abuses Against Civilians in Northern Mali

The Amicale Touarègue de Rennes (Tuareg Association of Rennes) held a demonstration on Saturday in the French city of Rennes to denounce what it described as massacres and abuses against Tuareg, Arab and Fulani civilians in the Sahel and northern Mali (Azawad).

During the protest, the association’s president, Fatim Walet, addressed the United Nations, the European Union and the African Union, urging them not to remain silent over what she described as crimes against humanity. She called for independent international investigations and sanctions against those responsible.

A statement distributed during the demonstration accused the Malian Armed Forces, alongside Russia’s Wagner Group and Africa Corps, of carrying out attacks against civilians, including the alleged use of drones and cluster munitions. The statement did not provide independently verifiable evidence for those allegations, and they could not be independently confirmed.

Participants also urged the international community to take action to protect civilians and end what they described as impunity.

There was no immediate response from the Malian government, Africa Corps or the Russian authorities to the allegations.
