Eastern Cape EFF calls for Oscar Mabuyane’s resignation
The party officially opened a criminal case of fraud against Mabuyane.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Eastern Cape is calling for Premier Oscar Mabuyane to resign. The party officially opened a criminal case of fraud against Mabuyane at the KuGompo City Police Station today.
The EFF says a previous court judgment against Mabuyane proves beyond reasonable doubt that he was aware of alleged irregularities relating to his qualifications when applying to the University of Fort Hare.
EFF Provincial Chairperson Zilindile Vena says the party believes the findings contained in an investigative report provide sufficient evidence to support the fraud case.
Vena says Mabuyane should be arrested and held accountable.
“This emanates from the outcome of the court case on Tuesday where Oscar Mabuyane took the president of the EFF for a defamation case, thinking that all what the president was saying is just subversive. And then the leadership of the EFF went to court and produced a report from the Horizon Forensics which was commissioned by Fort Hare University.”

Meanwhile, Mabuyane says he has noted the criminal case opened against him by the EFF.
Premier’s Spokesperson Sonwabo Mbananga says Mabuyane intends to institute the appropriate legal proceedings to review and challenge the university‘s forensic report, which is relied upon by various parties in advancing allegations against him.
“The premier remains committed to addressing these matters through the proper legal processes and courts of law and will, therefore, not be engaging in a public exchange on issues that are before the courts or are the subject of intended legal proceedings. It is noteworthy that the very report upon which these allegations are premised is itself the subject of intended legal challenge by the premier. Premier Mabuyana remains focused on his constitutional responsibilities and his mandate of serving the people of the Eastern Cape.”
