TELECOMMUNICATIONS powerhouse, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering communities through technology by donating digital equipment to Starlight Oasis of Hope Hospice (SOHH) in Maqhaka this week.
The handover, officiated by ETL’s Acting General Manager for Communications and Customer Experience, Puleng ‘Mathabo Masoabi, included laptops, desktop computers, a projector, a conference monitor and a printer aimed at enhancing the hospice’s day-to-day operations, improving communication and strengthening its capacity to deliver compassionate palliative care to patients and their families.
In addition to the equipment, ETL committed to providing internet connectivity to the hospice, ensuring that healthcare professionals and administrators have reliable access to essential digital resources, communication platforms and information systems.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms Masoabi said ETL believed that meaningful connectivity went beyond providing communication services and should create lasting social impact by empowering institutions that transform lives.
“Today’s handover reflects our shared commitment to equipping organisations such as Starlight Oasis of Hope Hospice with the tools they need to continue delivering hope, comfort and dignity to some of the most vulnerable members of our society,” Ms Masoabi said.
“At ETL, we recognise the extraordinary work being led by the hospice’s founder, Ms Tebello Malichaba Lepheane, and her dedicated team. Through technology and reliable internet connectivity, we are proud to support their mission and strengthen their ability to reach and serve even more Basotho.”
She added that the support formed part of the company’s broader commitment to leveraging digital innovation to improve lives, strengthen community institutions and create sustainable social impact across Lesotho.
Speaking on behalf of the hospice, founder Ms Lepheane welcomed the support, describing it as a significant milestone in the organisation’s journey.
“This support from Econet Telecom Lesotho and our valued partners comes at a pivotal moment for our organisation. The digital equipment and internet connectivity will significantly improve our administrative efficiency, strengthen communication and enable our team to better coordinate the care and support we provide to those who depend on our services,” Ms Lepheane said.
Reflecting on the initiative, the Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Malitšoanelo Monyobi, commended ETL for its meaningful contribution and applauded the collective efforts of the private sector in strengthening healthcare services.
Ms Monyobi also reaffirmed the ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting Starlight Oasis of Hope Hospice and its mission of providing quality palliative care to Basotho.
