Friday ends damp as showers spread across Belize

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The work week closes on a damp note with a small twist in the pattern: the extra showers belong to inland areas this morning and early afternoon, before rain spreads over most of the country tonight, and Saturday’s shoppers should plan around a wet morning that dries into the afternoon.

According to the National Meteorological Service, relatively moist and unstable conditions prevail. Skies will be partly cloudy today with isolated showers or thunderstorms, except for a few more inland this morning and early afternoon. Tonight turns cloudy with some showers or thunderstorms over most areas.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 81 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will climb to 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before dropping to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a low of 68 (20 Celsius).

At sea, the water carries some bounce, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, choppy conditions, and waves of 3 to 5 feet, the usual care applying for smaller vessels, especially near any heavier shower.

The timing matters for Saturday’s plans, with the first GST-free shopping day of the month arriving tomorrow. The outlook calls for cloudy spells with some showers or thunderstorms over most areas Saturday morning, with showers becoming isolated by Saturday afternoon, making the afternoon the drier window for the stores. Saturday night sends a few showers or thunderstorms to the south.

On the tropical front, the bulletin carries its simplest line in days: tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the region during the next 48 hours, and the distant Atlantic systems previously reported remain no concern for Belize.
