Grammy award winning artist Shyne Barrow named 2026 Global Ambassador honoree at Caribbean Music Awards

By Zoila Palma: Belizean Grammy Award-winning recording artist and former Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow has been named the 2026 Global Ambassador Honoree by the Caribbean Music Awards, recognizing his contributions to Caribbean music and his journey from international recording artist to political leader and advocate for Belize.

The Caribbean Music Awards highlighted Shyne’s rise as an internationally recognized artist who helped bring the sound and influence of Caribbean talent to audiences around the world.

The organization said his journey represents “music, transformation, leadership, and impact,” while celebrating his role in representing Caribbean culture, creativity and resilience on the global stage.

As a Belizean artist, Shyne made his mark on the international music industry with his distinctive baritone and gritty lyrical style.

He released his platinum-certified self-titled debut album in 2000, followed by the gold-certified “Godfather Buried Alive” in 2004, and has worked as a performer, writer and producer with major artists including Usher, Lil Wayne and The Notorious B.I.G.

His music career later evolved into public service, where he served as Leader of the Opposition in Belize’s House of Representatives.

The recognition comes as Shyne continues his return to music with his “2622 LGND” tour, featuring reggae icon Barrington Levy, rap legend Lil’ Cease and Belizean artists Stig Da Artist and DJ Rampage. Announcing the tour, Shyne said, “Beyond excited to announce the celebration of the legacy continues this fall with the 2622 LGND tour,” describing the shows as a continuation of his return to the stage and a celebration of hip-hop and reggae’s golden eras.

Shyne will receive the Global Ambassador Honoree recognition at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards on Saturday, September 19, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
