Gros Islet Carnival Eyes Regional Expansion as Organisers Unveil Bold Vision for the Future

Gros Islet Carnival is setting its sights beyond Saint Lucia, with organisers revealing ambitious plans to transform the community festival into a regional cultural powerhouse through partnerships with neighbouring islands.

Chairman Devon Philip says discussions are underway to strengthen ties with carnival stakeholders in Martinique and Guadeloupe, creating opportunities for Saint Lucian bands, performers and cultural practitioners to showcase their talent on larger regional stages.

According to Philip, the initiative forms part of a long-term strategy to elevate Gros Islet Carnival, broaden its appeal and position it as a major player on the Caribbean carnival calendar.

“We are looking at ways to grow Gros Islet Carnival beyond our shores. We see tremendous potential for cultural exchange and for showcasing our bands on regional platforms. This is part of our long-term vision for the continued growth and sustainability of the festival,” he said.

The proposed collaborations are expected to foster cultural exchange while opening new avenues for local creatives, helping to strengthen the economic and cultural impact of the annual celebration.

As Gros Islet Carnival 2026 unfolds, organisers say the expanded programme, new attractions and regional ambitions are designed to deliver an unforgettable experience while laying the groundwork for sustained growth.
