On Friday May 15, Vipers were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Kitara at the St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
The result meant the end to Vipers’ dream of defending the Uganda Cup as they bowed out on away goals rule following a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at Royals Park, Butema.
It is Kitara that will face SC Villa in the final rumored to be hosted at Fufa stadium, Kadiba on May 30th.
With the ejection of Jacky Ivan Minnaert’s charges, they miss an opportunity to match SC Villa’s history of defending the league and cup double though they remain in pole position to defend the league.
Villa, the most successful club in Ugandan football won back-to-back doubles in 1988 and 1989, a feat that is yet to be matched to-date.
The Jogoos, into the final now have an opportunity to equal KCCA and Express record of most Uganda Cup crowns, 10, if they overcome Kitara, a side targeting only their second trophy.
Villa also remains the side to win more league and cup doubles; six in 1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 & 2002.
