Ice Cube and Nia Long Are Returning for Are They Gone Yet, the Third Are We There Yet Film

Ice Cube and Nia Long are heading back to the big screen together. Skydance Sports, a division of Paramount Skydance, has acquired Are They Gone Yet?, the third installment of the Are We There Yet? franchise, and it is currently in early development. Ice Cube returns as Nick Persons, Long returns as Suzanne Kingston, and this time around Nick is navigating life with grandkids.

The film is produced by Broken Road Productions and CubeVision, with Ice Cube, Todd Garner, and Jeff Kwatinetz producing. Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana are writing the script. Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey serve as executive producers.

The franchise by the numbers

The original Are We There Yet? debuted at number one at the domestic box office in 2005, grossing $97.9 million worldwide on a production budget of $20 to $32 million. The 2007 sequel, Are We Done Yet?, brought in another $58.3 million, putting the two-film theatrical total at more than $156 million worldwide.

The franchise extended to television with a TBS sitcom spinoff starring Terry Crews that aired from 2010 to 2013 and ran for 100 episodes across four seasons.

“We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies. Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership,” said Ice Cube.

Are They Gone Yet? adds to a CubeVision slate that includes Friday, Barbershop, 21 Jump Street, Ride Along, and the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, which grossed over $200 million worldwide. Ice Cube’s films have collectively grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Beyond film, Ice Cube co-founded the BIG3 basketball league and has been inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. His latest album, Man Up, is out now via Lench Mob Records.

Where Nia Long is right now

Long is coming off one of the biggest films of 2026. She currently stars in Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic released by Lionsgate on April 24, 2026, directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King. The film scored the top domestic launch ever for a biopic and the best global opening for a music biopic and is approaching the $1 billion milestone. Long plays Katherine Jackson alongside Oscar nominee Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Jaafar Jackson as Michael.

She recently wrapped production on Don’t Ever Wonder for Netflix, reuniting with her Love Jones co-star Larenz Tate. The film is inspired by Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite album and Long also serves as executive producer. She previously reprised her role in The Best Man: The Final Chapters on Peacock, which premiered to record ratings and earned her a 2023 NAACP Award. Long is a four-time NAACP Award winner with an upcoming memoir from Gallery Books.
