DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Works Masanja Kadogosa has directed the contractor building the Jangwani Bridge to ensure the project is completed by the end of 2027, as the government pushes to address persistent flooding and transport disruptions in one of Dar es Salaam’s busiest corridors.

Minister Kadogosa issued the directive during an inspection of the project’s progress, commending the contractor and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) for the work done so far.

According to the minister, implementation of major strategic projects is a sign of leadership focused on delivering tangible results and driving economic growth.

“The contractor has done a very good job. Continue working hard and ensure this project is completed by the end of 2027,” he said.

Additionally, he said the completion must be in line with the terms of the contract.

Elaborating on the project, he said the Jangwani Bridge is among the commitments made by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during her campaign and has received strong public support because of its importance to Dar es Salaam residents while praising the production and preparation of some construction materials at the project site, saying the approach saves time and reduces transportation costs.

“The government is also putting measures in place to minimise the impact of heavy rains on major roads, including installing culverts, temporary bridges and other essential infrastructure,” he said.

Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo said the Jangwani Bridge is critical to national, political, religious and social activities, but the area had repeatedly experienced flooding during heavy rains.

“Completion of this project will help address the problem, improve the area and ease movement of people,” he said.
