Boston Celtics all-star Jayson Tatum made it clear that there is no friction between himself and former teammate Jaylen Brown.

The internet quickly speculated something was up after Brown dropped the cap emoji on a video of Tatum breaking down when he learned Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, saying he was “just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world.”

For those not up on today’s slang, CAP means someone isn’t telling the truth or is embellishing events.

After the Celtics’ win over the defending champion New York Knicks, Tatum was asked about Brown’s response to his video and let out a big sigh before spending several minutes talking about the situation. m

“I don’t have any animosity or beef or ill will towards him,” Tatum said after the Celtics’ 107-103 win over the Knicks in Boston’s home opener. “The frustrating part is since he’s not on the Celtics anymore, the narrative or conversations haven’t been enough about what we accomplished, all the games we won, winning the championship, how we’ve grown together, right?”

The former duo’s time together featured plenty of highs, including a 2024 championship after defeating the Dallas Mavericks and another Finals appearance in 2022. The Celtics also reached the Eastern Conference Finals in five of eight years.

But when the lows hit and the team failed to live up to expectations, speculation about Brown and Tatum’s partnership ran rampant, and Tatum said he felt people were sensationalizing it.

“This ain’t no f—ing Shaq and Kobe,” Tatum said, harking back to the well-documented rift between Shaquille O’Neal and the late Kobe Bryant during their eight years together on the Los Angeles Lakers. “There’s no beef. It’s not about that. It should be more praise. I understand drama gets clicks and views, but I’m not really into that. I’m not blaming everybody for how they feel. Everybody is entitled to their own feelings, and we all go through different things in our lives.”

Jayson Tatum Believes Any Issues Could Be Resolved With A Conversation

Tatum added that he believed the situation between him and Brown requires a conversation that shouldn’t happen on social media, and that he has always wanted the best for his former teammate.

“I reached out to him the day he was traded. I called, I texted,” Tatum continued. “I understand people process things differently. At this point in our lives, we’re too old to be having our relationship discussed on the internet. If there’s a conversation to be had, we can definitely have the conversation.

“I welcome that. I’ve always wanted the best for him, wished the best for him. I’ve always publicly said those things.”

We’ll see if Brown feels the same, and we are sure he’ll touch on it during his livestream or after reporters ask him to respond to Tatum’s comments.
