Joburg’s Hubo Studio has just been named a finalist in three categories at the Architizer A+Awards!
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 May 2026) – A Johannesburg architecture firm based in Norwood has just been named a finalist in three categories at the Architizer A+Awards, one of the most prestigious architecture honours in the world!
Hubo Studio is one of only five firms worldwide shortlisted for Best Small Firm, which places them among the most impactful up-and-coming practices on earth. Adding to that, their flagship project, the Redhill Early Learning Centre, has been selected as a top 5 global finalist in both the Best Kindergarten and Best Educational Interior categories.
The Redhill Early Learning Centre is truly a modern feat of architectural design worth marvelling over. Hubo Studio designed it as a ‘mini city’ for children, full of open gathering spaces, levels to explore, and a flow between inside and outside, designed around how children learn, explore, and grow. Check out the centre below!
In the last year alone, Hubo Studio has been quietly stacking up wins both locally and abroad.
Founder Asher Marcus was honoured with the National Arts and Culture Prize, a win the whole team got to claim. The Redhill Early Learning Centre took home Educational Build of the Year at the SCAPE Awards of Excellence, and the studio picked up a High Commendation for Architecture Firm of the Year at the same ceremony. Then in January this year, SCAPE Magazine named them among the 100 voices and 100 icons leading the conversation in South African architecture and design, for the second year running!

The team has an impressive track record and now, all eyes are on Hubo’s team as they represent South Africa at the Architizer A+Awards.
The jury for the awards is made up of leading architects, designers and cultural figures from around the world, but the public gets a say, too. The Architizer A+Awards include a Popular Choice Award, which means the public gets to vote.

If you’d like to show your support for the local studio making big waves internationally, cast your vote for Hubo in the categories for Best Small Firm, Best Kindergarten, and Best Educational Interior online, before the 15th of May!
“This recognition is incredibly meaningful for us” said Asher Marcus, Founder and Lead Architect of Hubo Studio. “It reflects not only our work, but a broader belief that architecture can shape the way children learn, think and grow. To be representing South Africa on this platform is something we are deeply proud of.”
The winners of the Architizer A+Awards will be announced in June 2026.
