KCCA saw off NEC 1-0 to claim the 2026 Fufa Super 8 trophy with Said Mayanja penalty deciding the hotly contested match at Hamz stadium, Nakivubo.
Here’s how the players rated as the first piece of silverware of the season was lifted.
Mutwalibu Mugolofa 8.0: He made a very good save to deny Henrique Lubwama in the second half and also made a stop from Richard Basangwa in the first half.
Lazaro Bwambale 6.5: Jarieko and Kagawa are tough players to deal with for any player but Bwambale did an excellent job of marshalling both. However, that limited the overlapping that we have come to associate with the ex-Kitara right back.
Herbert Achai 7.5: The captain’s ball from the free kick resulted into the penalty that won the game. Battled with first, Kagawa and then Richard Basangwa all through and fought like a captain till the last minute even he appeared to have been injured.
Filbert Obenchan 7.0: Given tough time especially when NEC introduced Fahad Bayo and later Innocent Media but rarely missed a tackle. Took a booking for the team with a cynical foul on Basangwa in the second half.
Maxwell Owachigiu 8.0: Like Obenchan, Owachigiu made some important blocks to deny the NEC attackers from shooting on goal and rarely put a foot wrong. Enjoyed aerial battles as well.
Brian Jjara 6.0: Didn’t impose himself on the game like he has always done through the competition but never at one time gave up.
Yunus Sibira 7.0: Cleverly won the penalty when he went down in the area. Had a few decent ball carries in the opponents half but was fortunate to survive a second booking for a foul on Jarieko after he was booked for stopping a would be counter attack from Hannington Ssebwalunyo long ball.
Said Mayanja 7.5: The tournament MVP kept his nerves to score the decisive penalty and was a thorn for the NEC players throughout the game.
Emmanuel Anyama 6.0: Got the opportunity to start with Charles Lwanga suspended and his hold up play was decent. There were also some good physical moments but wasn’t able to exercise his chances to run in behind.
Sammy Ssebaduka 7.0: As usual, he left everything on the pitch. Attacked with pace and energy and defended as well when required to. Celebrated his last-ditch clearance in the closing stages of the game like a match winning goal.
Substitutes
Kennedy Muserero 5.0: He drew applause, sarcastic at times for his effort but not effectiveness. A downgrade on Anyama, the player he replaced with over half an hour to go.
Ashraf Mugume 7.0: Replaced Sibira and did well fighting for every ball and has some cute pieces of work in tight spaces and always willing to play that pass in front.
Ismael Fahad 6.0: The youngster took the ball to the opponents whenever he had the chance and never looked fazed by the moment. A bright future awaits.
Head coach – Brian Ssenyondo 8.0:
Besides giving Muserero more than deserved minutes on the pitch, he got almost everything right on the day and deserved to be the winning coach.
