President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to investing in youth-driven innovation and technological advancement, emphasizing the need to equip young people with skills that match the demands of a rapidly evolving global digital economy.
Speaking during engagements at the University of Nairobi alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Ruto said Kenya is reforming its education system to ensure that young people become creators and innovators rather than passive consumers of technology. The discussions took place as part of the Africa Forward Summit.
A key highlight of the visit was the announcement of a partnership between Kenya and France to develop the University of Nairobi Science and Engineering Complex. According to President Ruto, the facility is expected to serve as a leading research and innovation hub for Kenya and the wider region, supporting scientific research, engineering development, and technology-driven solutions.
The Kenyan leader stressed that empowering youth through education, science, and innovation is central to the country’s long-term development agenda. He noted that strengthening research infrastructure and expanding opportunities in science and technology will help young innovators transform ideas into practical solutions for social and economic challenges.
Ruto further stated that Kenya’s young population represents both the country’s present and future, adding that the government is focused on creating an enabling environment that supports entrepreneurship, innovation, and technological creativity among the next generation.
