Lime launches LimePrime subscription offering more affordable travel options

Electric bike and scooter hire company Lime has announced the launch of a new subscription model called, LimePrime.

This allows frequent riders, such as commuters, to access lower-cost travel for everyday journeys, which they say will being the company’s prices “in line with, or below, public transport.”

They add that the new pricing model “has been launched to support the Government’s drive to ensure active travel options remain accessible and affordable for everyone during the ongoing, rising costs of living.”

For a monthly fee of £6.99, LimePrime subscribers will unlock reduced, flat-rates of £1.70 for rides up to 20 minutes,

Subscribers will also benefit from unlimited free unlocks, extended 30-minute vehicle reservations, and gain access to flat-rate pricing for friends and family on group rides where available.

The rollout comes as the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, underlines the importance of maintaining affordability and accessibility in active and sustainable transport:

“This Government want to ensure active travel is affordable and accessible for everyone.

“It’s clear that the cost of living continues to be a very real pressure for families and commuters. That’s why we’re backing shared cycle schemes that are delivered in partnership with local leaders.

“I’m delighted to see Lime making shared cycles more affordable. We will continue to work closely with the industry to make them a low-cost transport option across the country.”

Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime, said:

“We regularly meet with national and local governments in the UK, and understand the importance of maintaining an affordable and easily accessible service. We heard this feedback and are proud to launch our new LimePrime subscription in multiple cities across the UK.

This new pricing model will offer an easy and more affordable travel option for people to get around, whether it is commuting to work, visiting friends or running errands.

With more people choosing e-bikes everyday, we want to build on that momentum and support the Department for Transport’s ambitions to make sure active travel is not only cleaner, but affordable and accessible too.”
