Man allegedly stabbed by girlfriend at wedding reception with boxcutter over $20

By Breaking Belize News Staff: An argument between a couple at a wedding reception near Ladyville allegedly ended with a man being cut on his hand with a box cutter.

Police received information at around 6:10 p.m. on September 10 of a stabbing at Hakim Shipyard near Mile 6.5 on the Philip Goldson Highway.

A 32-year-old man later told police that he had invited his girlfriend to the wedding, but an argument began after she became upset because he had not been answering her telephone calls.

According to the man, his girlfriend asked him to pay $20 to a relative who had transported her to the event. He initially refused but later agreed in an attempt to calm the situation.

The man alleged that as he handed over the money, his girlfriend reached into her purse, pulled out what appeared to be a black box cutter and swung it at him, cutting his right hand.

He reportedly ran into the establishment for assistance while his girlfriend left toward Ladyville.

The man was treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and requested court action. Police have listed the woman as wanted as the investigation continues.
