Manipur: Four killed in gunfight between rival Nagas armed groups
Several persons were injured in the incident in the Noney district.

Four suspected militants were killed in a gunfight between rival Naga groups in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday, NDTV reported.
The gunfight began at around 3.30 am in Taodaijang village and continued for several hours, The Hindu. The exchange of fire had prevented security personnel from immediately reaching the area, the newspaper quoted an unidentified district official as saying.
Three of the dead were from the armed Naga group Zeliangrong United Front (Jenchui faction) and one from the Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah), NDTV reported.
However, The Hindu quoted residents as saying that the fourth person who was killed was from the Kamson faction of the Zeliangrong United Front.
Several persons from the three groups were injured, the newspaper reported.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the gunfight.
The incident follows ethnic clashes that broke out in Manipur in May 2023 between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities. Tensions between the Kuki and the Naga communities have also escalated in the state since February.
At least 310 persons have been killed and 49 are missing in Manipur since the beginning of the clashes, the Assembly was informed in September. About 60,000 persons were displaced during the violence. Of them, 36,000 persons had been resettled and 24,000 remained in relief camps across Manipur.
