Metro Vancouver announces leadership transition

THE Metro Vancouver Board of Directors has announced a transition in its executive leadership, as Jerry Dobrovolny ends his tenure as Chief Administrative Officer and Commissioner with the organization.

“With the upcoming municipal election and ongoing governance reform, the Board believes this is the right time to transition leadership and position the organization for its next chapter and has come to an agreement with Jerry regarding this transition,” said Mike Hurley, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Boards, on Friday. “On behalf of the Board, I thank Jerry for his many years of public service and contributions to Metro Vancouver as an organization and a region.”

Metro Vancouver saqid in a statement: “Jerry Dobrovolny joined Metro Vancouver in 2019. Under Jerry’s strong leadership, Metro Vancouver met the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by ensuring that residents continued to receive uninterrupted essential services throughout the region. With the support of the Board, Jerry successfully navigated the organization through the aftermath of the pandemic, as Metro Vancouver continued to complete an extensive number of large-scale infrastructure projects despite the increased challenges of inflation and global supply chain disruptions.

“In response to the regional challenges of rapid population growth and aging infrastructure, Jerry led Metro Vancouver as it increased its infrastructure program to over 300 concurrent projects across the region, collaborating with all levels of government and First Nations, and overseeing the implementation of industry best practices in project management to enhance transparency and consistent reporting.”

Heather McNell, the organization’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Policy and Planning, is the acting Chief Administrative Officer and Commissioner, overseeing the organization’s operations and executive leadership team during the transition. Metro Vancouver said its delivery of essential services to residents and member jurisdictions will continue without interruption.
