MOGA, the boutique electronic festival founded in Essaouira in 2016, will hold its first West African edition in Dakar on 20 November 2026, at Maison CSS. SceneNoise reported the news on 15 October. The lineup has not been announced. Updates and ticket alerts are available through a sign-up link on the festival’s Instagram.
From Essaouira to Lisbon to Dakar
The Dakar date follows MOGA’s tenth Essaouira edition, held from 30 September to 4 October, and its European offshoot at Costa da Caparica, near Lisbon. The festival follows the same formula in each place: an intimate site by the ocean, underground house and techno, and programming that draws on local tradition. In Essaouira, that tradition is Gnaoua. For Dakar, SceneNoise says to expect “international electronic heavyweights alongside regional African and MENA trailblazers.”
Maison CSS is not a stadium. A one-night edition in a mid-sized venue is a low-risk way to test a new market: costs stay small while organisers learn the local logistics of permits, sound, ticketing, and audiences who may know the brand from Instagram but have never been to the festival.
What MOGA Dakar means for West Africa
The first point is geographic. North African electronic promoters have mostly looked north, to Europe and the Gulf. Taking a European-facing festival down the Atlantic coast to Dakar is a different bet. It assumes West Africa’s most cosmopolitan francophone capital has an audience for underground house and techno, and that the people who travel for MOGA in Morocco and Portugal will also go to Senegal.
The second is about artists. Each new MOGA edition is another booking for its regular roster of DJs. If the lineup includes Senegalese and wider West African acts, which the “regional trailblazers” wording suggests, Dakar becomes a showcase. Local selectors would play in front of the people who book Essaouira and Portugal. In a region where most international bookings still go through London or Paris, that is a valuable direct connection.
There are risks. Senegal’s live events sector has its own permitting and security requirements, and a November date lands just before Lagos and Accra take most of the region’s attention and money in December. Three things will show whether Dakar becomes a fixture: the size of the lineup, the ticket price in CFA francs, and whether MOGA confirms a 2027 date.
