Multiple NYPD Officers Injured After Domestic Violence Call Leads To Fiery Explosion In South Ozone Park
By Stephen Mandel Joseph Photo: Stephen Mandel Joseph Thursday, at approximately 2:57 a.m., NYPD officers responding to a domestic violence call at a home located at 107-33 130th St. in South Ozone Park were about to enter when the explosion occurred. 7 officers were reported injured. According to Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh of the NYPD, the individual allegedly responsible for the incident — named by authorities as Anroop Parasram, age 50 — entered the residence carrying plastic bags filled with canisters and began making threats towards his estranged spouse. The victim’s daughter contacted the police, urgently requesting assistance. Officers from the 106th Precinct were dispatched to the scene in response to the situation. Although the majority of the family fled to safety, Parasram reportedly stayed in the residence with his estranged wife and brandished a knife at her, according to police, until she managed to escape independently. She then encountered the responding officers and gave them a key to access the house. It was at that moment that officers found themselves in a perilous situation. “Our officers were at the front door of the residence attempting to enter when suddenly a massive, fiery explosion erupted,” McIntosh told reporters at an early morning press conference. Upon the FDNY’s arrival, they faced a huge 5-alarm blaze that hindered their ability to enter and search for anyone trapped inside, as stated by FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito. All individuals affected by the explosion have been accounted for, except the suspect. According to police sources, a man’s body was discovered in the remains of the house. It has not been confirmed whether the body is that of the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
