A 20-year-old driver has been sentenced to an effective three years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide after his negligent driving resulted in a fatal accident that claimed a life.
The incident, which occurred along Nemakonde Road after the Westgate roundabout last July, took the life of an eight-year-old minor.
According to court records, on July 4, 2025, Tadiwa Muswere was involved in a serious accident that left several people injured.
The incident occurred on the busy highway after he lost control of his speeding vehicle, crashing into a stationary Toyota Quantum with 10 passengers on board. As a result of the impact, one victim died of injuries sustained.
The court heard that the driver was speeding and failed to exercise proper caution, demonstrating a blatant disregard for road safety. He was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, before two years were conditionally suspended.
Following the passing of the deterrent sentence, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) underscored the need for drivers to safeguard other road users.
