By Zoila Palma: A new cohort of 23 Peace Corps volunteers has officially begun their service in Belize following an oath ceremony led by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Rhonda Slusher.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Nadine Rogers, members of the Peace Corps community and government representatives, formally welcoming the volunteers into the Peace Corps’ more than six-decade partnership with Belize.
The volunteers will serve in the Youth Development and Primary Education sectors, supporting locally led initiatives aimed at strengthening youth development and education.
Their assignments will include work with the Youth Empowered by Sports (YES) project, as well as literacy programs and other classroom-based initiatives, while living and working alongside Belizean communities.
As the Peace Corps marks 65 years of global service, the new volunteers will continue a longstanding legacy of partnership, cultural exchange and community-driven development.
