NHP says benefits unchanged despite delayed claims

THE Namibia Health Plan (NHP) says its members’ benefits have not changed despite administrative disruptions after it moved to a new service provider.

In a statement issued by NHP spokesperson Tunohole Mungoba, NHP says it has held virtual engagement sessions with members and healthcare providers to address concerns over the transition, which took effect on 1 April 2026.

“Members’ benefits have not changed. All existing benefits remain the same during this transition. There are no changes to cover or contributions,” NHP principal officer Dantago Garosas said.

She said fund rules, benefit options, benefit limits and member contributions remain unchanged.

“The disruptions experienced are administrative only. The challenges experienced do not relate to benefit reductions or amendments. Members remain fully covered in line with their existing benefit option and fund rules,” Garosas said.

NHP said the engagement sessions were aimed at clarifying misconceptions and addressing concerns raised by members and healthcare service providers.

The fund admitted that the transition had caused challenges over the past few weeks, including claims that had not been processed.

NHP said this had created an administrative burden for healthcare providers and employer groups.

The fund said it has put updates and corrective measures in place to resolve the problems.

NHP board of trustees chairperson Sabrina Jacobs said the fund’s management and service providers are working towards stability.

“We would like to assure you from the outset that the fund management and the service providers are actively working towards stability,” Jacobs said.

“Our vision and mission remain the same, as we continue striving to provide access to quality healthcare for our members,” she said.

Jacobs said NHP would continue working with the managed care service provider to ensure coding alignment remains in line with Namaf requirements.
