Parliament Procures over 500 iPads for MPs

The Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, has revealed that iPads valued at approximately Shs 2.5 million each for Members of Parliament have already been procured.

The 12th Parliament comprises 527 Members, including 353 directly elected constituency representatives, 146 district woman representatives, and 30 representatives of special interest groups such as the army, youth, persons with disabilities, workers, and older persons, as well as ex officio members.

According to Mwesige, distribution of the devices is set to begin immediately, with the ICT department tasked to train MPs on how to effectively use them.

“We have procured all of them and they will arrive today. The ICT department will guide MPs on how to use them because much of the work is now paperless,” Mwesige said.

He added that in the future, Parliament will no longer provide hard copies of policy statements and other official documents. Instead, all materials will be uploaded onto a digital system accessible to legislators.

The move is part of efforts to modernise parliamentary operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs associated with printing large volumes of documents.
