Peabo Bryson, legendary R&B singer, dies at 75 

Two-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Peabo Bryson has died. He was 75. Bryson “transitioned peacefully” surrounded by family on Tuesday evening, per a statement. 

According to CBS News, Bryson was under medical care after suffering a stroke Sunday. “We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” Bryson’s family shared. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”

The beloved singer is known for songs like “Feel the Fire” and “Can You Stop the Rain.” He is also widely known for his Oscar-winning Disney duets, “Beauty and the Beast” featuring Celine Dion and  “A Whole New World,” alongside Regina Belle for the animated movie Aladdin. 

Born Robert Peapo Bryson in 1951, Bryson’s musicianship began as a teenager in Greenville, South Carolina during the late 60s. In 1976, he released his self-titled debut album. Bryson’s career spans more than five decades, with 20 studio albums. The timeless tenor is credited as the “King of Balladares.” 

Bryson  is survived by his wife, son and daughter from a previous marriage.
