Police Volleyball Club went past REG Volleyball Club hurdle to qualify for the final of the Africa Club Championship.
Police secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory against REG in the CAVB ACC encounter at BK Arena on Friday evening.
It was a thrilling game that saw both gaffers Fred Musoni and Benon Mugisha scratch their head a little to ensure that they get their tactics right, but at the end of the day, the former came out victorious.
The game was so close from the word go. Police’s attack was the difference finding a way through REG’s block as they broke away creating a five-point lead (19-14).
Despite REG’s late charge, Police held on to take the opening set with a dominant five-point lead (25-20).
In the second frame, REG came out of their blocks early opening opening a four-point (7-3) lead. REG held on and levelled matters taking the second set (25-22).
It was a period that test REG’s mental position. More than twice their lead was narrowed down but Benon Mugisha’s troops kept the fight alive.
In the third set, the Kenyan import Elphas Makuto was the different as his electric attack, giving Police a dominant triumph (25-17) as they reopened the lead.
REG failed to shut down Makuto’s way since their blocks were rushed. Police rolled over, thus taking the set 25-21.
The win takes them to the highly anticipated final where they will take on record champions Al Ahly Volleyball Club.
On the other hand, REG will lock horns with Petrojet in the third-place placement game to tell who takes bronze home.
