PORT Moody Police are investigating two back-to-back serious collisions that occurred on Tuesday evening.

On June 23 at about 7:15 p.m., police and other first responders were called to the 600-block of Ioco Road for a report of a three-vehicle collision. It is believed the driver of a pick-up truck travelled into the oncoming lane and struck two vehicles. The pick-up truck ended up off the road into a utility pole.

The driver of the pick-up truck – a 41-year-old man – was detained after allegedly failing a roadside alcohol screening test and faces criminal charges as a result. He was driving with a young child in the rear seat. He was also determined to be a province-wide prohibited driver.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported but the road was closed into the early hours of Wednesday morning as crews worked to restore the utility pole (see photos).

Approximately an hour after the first collision, officers and first responders were called to a report of a hit-and-run on St. Johns Street at Ioco Road. A cyclist was allegedly struck by a white BMW SUV whose driver did not remain on scene. The cyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result.

“This matter remains under investigation and we are appealing for any additional witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to contact us,” says Constable Sam Zacharias.
