Pregnant young woman found dead in Belize City room

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A death investigation is underway in Belize City after a 21-year-old woman, in the third trimester of pregnancy, was found lifeless in an upstairs room, with a post mortem examination expected to determine how she died.

According to the Belize Police Department, information of a sudden death was received at about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, directing police to a location at the corner of Vernon Street and Amandala Drive.

On arrival, officers met a 44-year-old man who escorted them to a room on the upper floor of a building, where they observed the motionless body of a young woman seated at a corner of the room. She appeared to have passed some time before she was found. The deceased was identified as a 21-year-old domestic of the area.

The man reported that at about 9:00 a.m. that morning, he went to check on the young woman and found the door to the upstairs room locked. He forced the door open to gain entry, and upon seeing her motionless, immediately called the police.

The circumstances of her health add layers of sorrow to the investigation. The young woman had been suffering from epileptic seizures for several years, and was in the third trimester of pregnancy with complications, having last been seen by medical personnel at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital about two weeks earlier for a prenatal checkup.

She was last seen alive at about 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, when she informed the man that she was not feeling well.

Her body has been transported to the National Forensic Science Service laboratory, where it awaits a post mortem examination. Police have given no indication of foul play, and the matter remains under investigation, with the examination expected to establish the cause of death.
