Babonneau Parish priest Father Aaron Albert has delivered a passionate homily warning that Saint Lucia is becoming increasingly divided, angry and intolerant, while calling on citizens to embrace compassion, forgiveness and self control.

Addressing congregants on May 24th during his sermon, Father Albert lamented what he described as a growing culture of aggression, jealousy and conflict within society.

“Friends, we are becoming a dangerously impatient society,” he declared.

He pointed to aggressive driving, rising hostility, broken relationships and anti-social behaviour among young people as signs of deeper social problems affecting the country.

“Drivers are aggressive. Children are rude because nobody corrects them.”

Father Albert also criticized what he described as hypocrisy among Christians and increasing division within communities and even churches.

“You possess the spirit of division. You are not a unifier. You are a divider,” he declared.

Throughout the homily, the priest repeatedly emphasized the importance of “real Christian love,” urging people to stop spreading rumours, support struggling families, check on the elderly and encourage discouraged young people.

“Christianity is not about feeling good,” Father Albert said. “Christianity is about loving the person you don’t like until it works.”

He warned against allowing anger, jealousy and hatred to dominate people’s lives, saying many individuals now “carry war in their mouths and in their hearts.”

“Everywhere they go, there is confusion, there is bacchanal, there is division and conflict,” he stated.

The religious leader also spoke against violence and revenge, particularly among young people, stressing that there is “nothing glamorous about violence.”

“The Holy Spirit teaches us restraint. Not every insult needs a reaction. Not every disagreement needs a fight. Not every offense needs revenge.”

The priest urged Saint Lucians to become more compassionate and community minded, arguing that the country could begin to heal if more people committed themselves to acts of kindness and unity.

“Imagine if every Christian in Saint Lucia committed to one concrete act of goodness,” he said. “Our nation would begin to heal.”

He called on citizens to reject hatred and division in favour of unconditional love and acceptance.

“We cannot be sowing seeds of division. We cannot be sowing seeds of hatred,” he declared.
