Russia Hits Kyiv Petrol Stations With Jet-Powered Drones, Killing Two

Russia struck petrol stations in Kyiv with jet-powered drones on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring six, the city’s mayor said, as bombardment of the Ukrainian capital entered a more intense phase.

The morning strikes hit two fuel stations, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. They followed attacks on a separate facility the previous day, bringing the number of petrol stations targeted to three across two days.

The repeated focus on fuel stations points to a new campaign aimed at civilian infrastructure in Kyiv. Drones powered by small jet engines fly faster than the propeller-driven models used in earlier waves, giving air defences less time to respond.

Kyiv has faced sustained aerial assault throughout the war, with residential blocks, warehouses and energy sites among past targets. Earlier this year, a drone strike on a warehouse near the capital killed dozens, illustrating the growing reach of long-range attacks.

Emergency crews worked to extinguish fires at the damaged sites on Friday. Officials warned residents to remain in shelters as air raid alerts continued through the morning.

The strikes come as Russia has intensified its use of one-way attack drones alongside missiles in recent weeks, straining Ukraine’s air defence stocks. Fuel supply points serve both civilian drivers and logistics networks, making them dual-purpose targets in a war of attrition.

Ukrainian authorities have appealed to Western partners for additional interceptors and air defence systems to counter the escalating drone campaign. Moscow has said its strikes target military-linked infrastructure, though civilian casualties have mounted throughout the conflict.

Ukraine’s air force and city officials are expected to release fuller damage assessments in the coming days as recovery operations continue at the affected stations.
