Rwanda sends back to Kinshasa 40 DR Congo nationals who were wrongly labeled as FDLR fighters
These suspects were sent back to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), after it was discovered that they had nothing to do with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

Rwanda has sent back the 39 Congolese individuals who were wrongly Labeled as FDLR Fighters.
The spokesperson for the Congo River Alliance and March 23 Rebel groups, Lawrence Kanyuka has confirmed that Kigali has repatriated back 39 Congolese nationals from Rwanda.
These suspects were sent back to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), after it was discovered that they had nothing to do with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
Apparently, they were taken to Rwanda under the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) program after being wrongly identified as FDLR combatants; despite never having been members of the group.
Therefore, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Republic of Rwanda proceeded, in full respect of human dignity, with the repatriation to the Democratic Republic of Congo, some 39 Congolese nationals who had been transferred to Rwanda under the DDR program and wrongly presented as FDLR fighters.
Lawrence Kanyuka, the AFC-M23 spokesperson claims that the Kinshasa regime under President Felix Tshisekedi continues its recruitment campaigns among Congolese civilians, offering financial incentives to certain individuals so that they falsely declare themselves members of the FDLR.
“This is despite the fact that they have no ties to that organization,” Kanyuka maintains.
“These individuals are usually transferred under the DDR program in coordination with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) to feed the narrative that FDLR elements are being repatriated to Rwanda,” the March 23 spokesman explains.
Posting on his Twitter (X) account, Kanyuka adds that Kinshasa makes the FDLR an essential component of its security apparatus.
“Elements of this group are integrated into the FARDC, the Wazalendo militias, as well as the State security services. They are also employed to ensure the protection of high-ranking regime officials and other prominent figures.”
And the AFC and M23 alliance warns against the development; “We condemn with the utmost firmness these practices orchestrated by the Kinshasa regime, which aim to mislead the Congolese population as well as the international community!”
