The South African National Consumer Commissioner (NCC) has announced a recall of specific Spar yoghurt products due to potential health risks, urging consumers to return them for a full refund.
The NCC has confirmed the recall comes after it was notified by Spar regarding the products.
The recall affects Spar fat free yoghurt, low fat yoghurt, double cream yoghurt, Indulge double cream yoghurt and Spar active drinking yoghurt products.
According to NCC spokesperson Pheto Ntaba, the affected products have a sell-by date of 9 August, and a use-by date of 12 August.
These products were sold nationally through Spar stores from 15 June.
“Spar informed the NCC that the recall is due to a machine malfunction during production, resulting in product blowing. This may cause changes in the product’s taste, smell, and appearance. Consumption of the affected products may cause stomach upset,” Ntaba says.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products should not consume them. They are advised to return the products to their nearest Spar store for a full refund or exchange.
The NCC encourages all consumers to respond promptly to product safety recalls.
Earlier this week, the NCC announced a product recall of various Jaguar Land Rover products that were produced between the 2024 and 2027 model years.
According to the NCC, the recall involves Jaguar F-Pace, as well as Land Rover Discovery and Defender models, and Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Velar vehicles.
The affected models are fitted with the AJ-20-D6 engine, which is the firm’s 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel unit, offered in various states of tune with D250, D300 and D350. – IOL
