Soufrière reign again in District 8

Soufrière Combined (Infants & Primary Schools) repeated as champions of District 8 primary school track and field. The back-to-back Best Sporting District held its annual track meet on Friday, March 13, at Soufrière Stadium.

The district includes just five primary schools; two of which compete as a combined entity.

Following their impressive victory, Soufrière Combined amassed 773 points to lead the standings. The contest for second place was fiercely competitive, but Bouton and Canaries (BouCan) pulled ahead of Les Etangs, scoring 599 to 594. Fond St Jacques Primary rounded out the table with 491 points.

Honours in the Under-13 girls’ division were shared by Hadassah Jules, Saint Lucia Athletics Association Juvenile Athlete of the Year, and her running mate, Kayla Gills. Leading the way once again for the champions, Jules and Gills each secured two gold medals and one silver. Meanwhile, Chance Isaac topped the boys’ division, claiming three gold medals.

Meanwhile, BouCan celebrated success as well, securing one trophy outright and sharing another. Neveah Hippolyte of BouCan impressed with two golds and a silver in the Under-11 girls’ category, while Soufriere’s Jayden Jn Baptiste clinched the boys’ title with three golds.

The momentum continued in the Under-9 divisions: Sherval Gonzague captured two golds for Soufriere in the girls’ events, while BouCan’s Kallam Toussaint and Les Etangs’ Etahj Alexander each took home a gold and a silver in the boys’ category.

Similarly, in the Under-7 class, Lily George of Les Etangs won both gold medals, whereas among the boys, Lawrenzo Sylvester of Soufriere and Mavrick Daniel of Fond St Jacques each secured a gold and a silver.

After a spirited season, District 8 sets aside internal rivalries and prepares for its title defence on April 1 at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. With many of their athletes engaged in regular training and club competition, the boys and girls from beneath the Pitons will certainly fancy their chances.
