Splash Kachupa: Britania Bets on Bottled Convenience to Grow Juice Market

Ugandan beverage manufacturer Britania Allied Industries Ltd is intensifing competition in the juice market with the scheduled launch of Splash Kachupa, a bottled version of its popular Splash juice brand.

Set to be unveiled at the company’s headquarters in Ntinda, the new product marks a strategic shift from the traditional tetra pack packaging to a more portable 400ml PET bottle, targeting consumers seeking convenience and affordability.

Industry observers indicate that the move reflects changing consumption trends, particularly among urban youth and on-the-go consumers who prefer resealable packaging.

At the time of its introduction, Splash Kachupa entered the market at a retail price of about Shs 2,500, positioning it competitively against both local and imported juice brands.

Company officials said the innovation was aimed at increasing accessibility of the Splash brand, capturing new market segments and strengthening competitiveness in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

The product will be rolled out in popular flavours including mango, orange, and apple, with plans to expand into other blends such as pineapple and passion fruit.

Uganda’s juice industry has in recent years seen intensified rivalry, with multinational and regional brands competing for shelf space in supermarkets and kiosks.

Customers note that Britania’s bottled approach places it in more direct competition with established bottled juice products, offering consumers a locally produced alternative.

The launch shows a broader push by domestic manufacturers to invest in value addition and product diversification, key pillars in Uganda’s industrialisation agenda.

With its established distribution network and strong brand recognition, Britania is betting that Splash Kachupa will not only deepen its market penetration but also reinforce its position as one of the country’s leading beverage producers.
