The government announced a state funeral for former Governor General Sir Neville Cenac, following consultations with his family, to honour his many years of service to Saint Lucia.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, offered condolences to Lady Julita, the children, and the relatives of Sir Neville, who died on June 2 at the age of 86.
Sir Neville’s public life spanned more than 50 years, from his entry into politics in 1968 to 2021. He served as Mayor of Castries, parliamentary representative for Laborie, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Foreign Affairs, President of the Senate, and Governor General. His tenure as Governor General lasted from 2018 until October 2021.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, Prime Minister the Hon. Philip J. Pierre extends sincere condolences to Lady Julita, the children and family of the late Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac,” a government statement said.
