DODOMA: TANZANIA and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in climate change mitigation, environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
The commitment was made during talks between the Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Reuben Kwagilwa, and Australia’s outgoing Ambassador to Tanzania, Jenny Da Rin, in Dodoma.
During their talks, Mr Kwagilwa commended Ambassador Da Rin for her contribution to environmental conservation efforts during her tenure and noted that Tanzania values its strong partnership with Australia, particularly in addressing the growing impacts of climate change.
Additionally, the deputy minister highlighted ongoing government initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, including the establishment of the National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC), and called for Australia’s support in building local capacity to advance carbon trading and community awareness programmes.
For her part, Ambassador Da Rin said Australia would continue supporting Tanzania in agriculture, research, water resource management and productivity enhancement, while also encouraging Australian investors and businesses to explore opportunities in Tanzania.
Furthermore, she urged Tanzanians to take advantage of education and training opportunities offered by the Australian government.
